Based in Italy around the 1940's till 1945, a Jewish guy named Guido literally falls in-love with a non Jewish, Italian woman named Dora. He uses his undeniable humor and passion for making the best out of life, to win the heart of his beloved "Principessa". Despite the obstacles the two face at first their love manage to overcome those barriers and get married. They have a baby boy together named Joshua. Once the Nazi's invade Italy, Guido and his side of the family are rounded up with the other Jews to be sent to the concentration camps. Once Dora, witness her husband and child leaving on the train to an unknown location, she can't imagine a day without them and demands to get on the train with them. Although she had the advantage of being safe for not being Jewish. Once in the camps, Guido immediately plays a very serious game with his innocent son to, in order to shield him from all truth of what went on during the holocaust. Guido goes to all extents to bring his wife and child hope during such treacherous times, with hopes of bringing the family together again. By keeping to the strict rules of his imaginary game, Guido guides his son to the "last round" before he is shot by a Nazi, from exposing himself and pretending to be a woman, in order to see his wife. Once the American's came and liberated the camp in 1945, Guido's gift to his son was his life. His sacrifice aloud Joshua to reunite with his mother again.
