The motives of France at the Peace Treaty
-George Clemenceau was the leader of France (on the left in the picture above.)
-Wanted to dismember Germany
-Weaken Germany from all its powerful sources so they could never make war again
-Wanted severe reparations to be paid in order to punish the Germans for all the damage they caused.
Summary: France wanted Germany to pay them large sums of reparations as a result of the war Germany caused. They wanted Germany to be so far into debt, that there would never be another chance to start a war.
Quote:
"It is far easier to make war than peace." -George Clemenceau
Subjunctive question: What if George Clemenceau was lenient when it came to punishing the Germans?
