Abdication of the Tsar (Feb/March Revolution)
Began with riots and strikes in Petrograd
Happends in Feb (Julius calander).(March) revolution ousted the Tsar (abdication) (((Russians used the Gregorian calendar) (For russia it took place in March)))
Aimed to replace him with a Provisional Government ((Only lasts for 6 months
Diarchy ensues (Means 2 power sources, Belong to 2 different factions)
Petrograd Soviet and the Provisional government the two strong factions
Provisional government led by Prince Lvov
Replaced by Alexander Kerensky (Represented the upper classes, but wasn't royalty.Makes the same mistake that the Tsar made. He keeps running into war!)
Both try to keep Russia in WW1
Unpopular (People wanted out of the war, and they wanted out now.)
Tsar- old kings, at the front of the army. Not in the cities, not seeing the starvations. He doesn't understand that people are unhappy he's fighting the war. Things were so bad there were bread riots. TWO seperate revolutions in 1917, first one does not bring in communism, first gets rid of the Tsar.
In ww1 it was called Petrograd, then changed it to Lenengrad, then it reverts back to St.Petersburg
